Meet Wayne Ng: Championing biobanking to improve cancer outcomes
Wayne Ng, General Manager of the Victorian Cancer Biobank is a driving force behind biobanking innovation in Australia. Like many in the field, Wayne’s journey into biobanking was unexpected - but today, he’s leading efforts to advance cancer research by ensuring scientists have access to high-quality biospecimens.
Under Wayne’s leadership, the Victorian Cancer Biobank has provided biospecimens to 370+ research projects, thanks to the generosity of over 40,000 specimen donors. He believes every donated sample is a step towards a breakthrough.
“I began to realise the power of biospecimens as a catalyst for research discoveries and innovative solutions to improve cancer outcomes. Biobanks are the research infrastructure that underpin this.”
As a member of the Brain Cancer Australia National Consortium and Director-at-Large for the Indo-Pacific Rim at ISBER, Wayne fosters collaboration at home and abroad to expand access to high-quality biospecimens.
Brain cancer biobanking has been a key part of Wayne’s work, making his involvement with the Brain Cancer Australia (BCA) National Consortium a natural fit.
“At Victorian Cancer Biobank, we’re always keen to leverage our specimens and services to facilitate research with other biobanks, and Brain Cancer Australia is the perfect place to connect with others in this space.”
